I run my work across a terminal, my phone and a set of scheduled jobs. They don’t share memory. What they share is one file, the shared state, and every session reads it before doing anything.
On September 15 a session rewrote that whole file with a single note about one topic. Weeks of infrastructure history, gone in one save.
I got it back from a backup. But a backup only fixes the day it happens. The real problem was that any session was allowed to rewrite the whole thing.
So the file now opens with a rule: append, do not replace. Add a dated entry at the top. Never rewrite the file.
It’s a small rule. That’s the point. The best fixes are usually one level above where the problem showed up.
